I think I found my sweet spot. PS2 era. And before. I've been out of gaming, working too much on games to enjoy them so I never had any consoles until I got an Xbox One S. It's OK but I'm starting a disc collection of PS1/PS2 games for legal emulation.
I got the entire Legacy of Kain series for Ps1/ps2 and all the Spyro games on Ps1. I've been playing Soul Reaver 2 to start with, constantly googling the guide and trying section over again but I love this style.
I decided to cut my GOG collection before getting too far. I had to reinstall my PC and none of my games worked. It's too much hassle because I reinstall my PC frequently sometimes. Now all my emulators and ROMs are stored on a second 4 TB HDD in my main PC. If I reinstall my SSD everything still works.
I also collect some Nintendo carts. I have NES: Baseball Stars, NES: Dr. Mario GBA: Final Fantasy I/II and DS: Final Fantasy III.
I have a Full Xbox One S 1 TB on my living room tv and a NES classic in my bedroom. Lots of catching up to do. I've only beat 1 game so far: Daytona USA (Xbox 360 game I have on Xbox One.)
I've got quite a bit of Ninja Gaiden beaton on NES classic but this boss is really hard and I can't keep much power when I get to him. Gotta keep trying and using saves because I'd never get this far without the builtin saves.
I bought a ps2 slim on ebay with 4 games 2 controllers separate I got controller extensions and a memory card. The controllers just ain't the same emulating playstation only playing old pre-N64 Nintendo games emulated from now on with snes usb controllers.
Got my Ps2 slim. Well certainly better controls than emulation. I beat 2 stages in 007 Nightfire in 3 attempts while I couldn't get past any stages in like 15 attempts on PC.
