Dog-O features a real-time turn-based battle system. That means you can optionally do attacks using fighting game combos like Street Fighter's Shoryuken. The battle system also continues to run so enemies will hit you and you can attack as fast as your fingers allow you. This guide won't explain that, because I probably just did. However, you can also play using menu selections, however speed counts here too.
The one other thing about RTTB you need to know is that there is a practice menu in the pause screen where you can practice (and learn) your moves. When you have simple battles turned on, this menu is greyed out.
